The search is on for Scotland’s finest tourism businesses with entries being sought for the 2007 Scottish Thistle Awards. Now in their 16th year, the awards honour tourism businesses which excel through quality and innovation and are widely recognised as one of the top accolades in the industry.
The 16th annual Awards will see the introduction of two new categories and the expansion of an existing category. Tour operators who encourage UK and international visitors to come to Scotland and businesses which use PR to promote their services are eligible to enter for the first time.
Area director for VisitScotland Aberdeen and Grampian, Ian Dunlop, said: “A number of tourism businesses in Aberdeen and Grampian have enjoyed success in the Thistle Awards in recent years, including Peregrine Wild Watch in Huntly for the Customer Care category, and Scotland By Bike for the Innovation category, both of which won awards in 2006.
“The Thistle Awards are widely recognised as a platform for celebrating excellence and innovation in the tourism industry, and I urge tourism businesses across Aberdeen and Grampian to enter, and help raise the profile of the premier quality tourism product we offer visitors here in the North East.”
The Thistle Awards were launched last month with the unveiling of a thistle ice sculpture at VisitScotland Expo in Edinburgh, the annual Scottish business to business event for the travel and tourism trade.
There are 10 categories this year and businesses can enter as many as applicable to their individual achievements. The closing date for entries is Thursday, 7th June.
The finalists will be announced in September with the overall winners announced at the glittering Awards Ceremony and dinner at the Edinburgh International Conference Centre on Friday 26th October.
