Gatehouse of Fleet TIC project in place
Dumfries & Galloway Council (DGC) and VisitScotland Dumfries & Galloway are moving ahead with a ‘Business Transformation Project’ which will look at the right solution for information provision for visitors and businesses in and around Gatehouse of Fleet.
Delia Holland, Area Director for VisitScotland Dumfries & Galloway, said: “We regret that our original location for a pilot project was felt to be unsuitable but we must move forward and our main priority is to find the most appropriate location for all concerned and, most importantly, one that will work best for our visitors. The project team will work with the local Gatehouse of Fleet community to source an alternative longer term tourist information provision in the town.”
Tony Fitzpatrick from Dumfries & Galloway Council said: “We have had talks with the Area Director of VisitScotland Dumfries & Galloway and DGC has decided to allocate up to £10,000 to explore with the community the various options available, whilst supporting the current Tourist Information Centre (TIC) provision for a period of up to three-months.”
The local community will be fully consulted on this process through Dr David Steel, Chair of the Gatehouse Development Initiative, who is a member of the project team. Anyone who would like to express an interest in providing/working with VisitScotland to provide a tourism information service in the town, should submit an outline proposal to VisitScotland Dumfries & Galloway at 64 Whitesands, Dumfries, DG1 2RS, as soon as possible so that this can be considered by the team.
Delia Holland continued: “The Tourist Information Centre is now temporarily open, giving us time to consult with the local community in order to identify the best possible solution for both visitors (and businesses) at Gatehouse of Fleet.”
