Launch of Road Safety Postcard for foreign drivers

In a new road safety drive for the 2007 tourist season, foreign drivers will be encouraged to pick up free postcards to help keep them safe and legal on Ayrshire roads.

The postcards, which have been produced by the Strathclyde Safety Camera Partnership, show a scenic view from near Girvan to Ailsa Craig on one side and a number of essential tips for safe driving on the other.

Partnership Manager, Gladys Cadden, said: “We all know that driving in a different country can be a bit stressful and confusing. These cards are intended to give foreign drivers an easy-to-read reminder of important information about driving on our roads. As far as possible, we have used symbols to assist those with a limited understanding of English.”

The Safety Camera Partnership initiative is being supported by VisitScotland, South Ayrshire Council and Strathclyde Police.

Annique Armstrong, Business Relationship and Marketing Manager with VisitScotland Ayrshire & Arran commented: “Our aim is to do all we can to ensure that a visit to Scotland is as memorable, safe and enjoyable as possible. We are delighted to support such a helpful initiative in this area.”

The cards will be on display in over 180 locations throughout Ayrshire such as Tourist Information Centres, hotels, guesthouses, caravan parks and visitor attractions.
