Following on from a successful trial last year, foreign drivers will be encouraged to pick up free postcards throughout the 2008 tourist season to help keep them safe and legal on Ayrshire roads.
The postcards, which have been produced by the Strathclyde Safety Camera Partnership, show a scenic view from near Girvan to Ailsa Craig on one side and a number of essential tips for safe driving on the other.
Partnership manager, Gladys Cadden, explained: “Last year the postcards proved very popular with visiting drivers and feedback showed that they found them an easy-to-read reminder of important information about driving on our roads. It is in everyone’s interest that overseas visitors understand the basic rules of driving in this country. As far as possible we have used symbols to assist those with a limited understanding of English.”
The Safety Camera Partnership initiative is being supported by VisitScotland, the councils in Ayrshire and Strathclyde Police.
The cards will be on display in over 180 locations throughout Ayrshire such as Tourist Information Centres, hotels, guesthouses, caravan parks and visitor attractions.
