The Sutherland harpist who performed at Madonna’s wedding has joined forces with VisitScotland to help encourage North American visitors to “Holiday” in Scotland. 26 year old Jennifer Port performed at the national tourism organisation’s showcase event during Scotland Week in New York in front of some of America’s top journalists and tourism leaders.

The event on the 31st of March was a unique opportunity to promote Scotland as a must-visit destination to thousands of potential visitors. Jennifer said: “I am delighted to be working with VisitScotland to promote Scotland in North America. This is a great chance to give some of America’s top journalists a taste of Scottish music and show them that when it comes to culture and musical heritage Scotland’s a must visit, must return destination.”

Scotland Week ran from 31st March – 6th April, giving VisitScotland the opportunity to showcase Scotland as a must visit destination to the largest international tourism market. A programme of events took place in seven cities across North America during the week and was used to promote Scotland with Homecoming Scotland 2009 a major theme in throughout all the activity.

VisitScotland preceded Scotland Week with a 4-day programme of public-facing events and marketing in Toronto (25-28th March)
