The Mey Selections brand has now been enhanced by a special range of tweeds designed and manufactured by world leading textiles and cashmere producers, Johnstons of Elgin, and developed in conjunction with HRH The Prince Charles, Duke of Rothesay.
Mey Selections Castle of Mey Estate Tweed was launched at the new Johnstons £1.5million Heritage Centre where it was received by TRH The Duke and Duchess of Rothesay during their visit where they viewed the weaving of the tweed in one of the only traditional mills left in the country.
Encompassing elegance and practical usage, the Castle of Mey Tweeds will be available in an extensive range of accessories, furniture and furnishings and can be purchased at Johnston's shops and by mail order. The tweeds complement the Mey Selections range which includes honeys, conserves, whisky, biscuits, oatcakes and shortbread as well as premium beef, lamb and seafood sourced from within 100 miles of The Castle of Mey.
Mey Selections also has four entries short-listed in the prestigious Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards 2008, an annual competition open to all Scottish food and drink producers. Within the Retail product category, short-listed entries include the Mey Selections range of chutneys and preserves and Mey Selections Barrogill Whisky.
In recognition of the relationship between the farmer, producer and consumer, the brand has also been short-listed in the Supply Chain Award which acknowledges the fully integrated sustainable approach taken by Mey Selections.
Mey Selections is also the first Scottish SME (Small Medium Enterprise) and one of the first food and drink companies to become involved with the Carbon Trust’s product carbon foot-printing and labelling initiative. This, combined with the sustainable approach taken by Mey Selections farmers and producers, has led to the brand also being short-listed for the Environmental Award.
The success story continues for Mey Selections, who is also short-listed in a national competition, the Supermeat & Fish Awards 2008. The unique co-branded product Mey Selections and Sainsbury’s Inspired to Cook Beef Rump Steaks with Cheddar and Mustard has been nominated in the Beef category.
Winners of the Scotland Food & Drink Excellence Awards 2008 will be announced on 8 May at the Mansfield Traquir, Edinburgh, whilst winners of the Supermeat & Fish Awards 2008 will be awarded at the Hilton Hotel, Park Lane, London on 3 July.
