Spring Fling, Scotland’s premiere annual art and craft open studio event, is a unique event combining a visit to Dumfries & Galloway’s finest artists’ and makers’ studios with a tour of the region’s stunning countryside scenery.
The event is launched was launched in early April by Jim Buchanan, international artist, one of the Spring Fling open studio artists and a consultant on the Edinburgh Labyrinth development. Jim has been a practicing artist in Dumfries & Galloway for over 15 years.
From 24 – 26 May, Spring Fling, now in its sixth year, offers visitors the opportunity to meet the region’s talented artists and makers in their individual creative spaces, watch them at work and even have a go themselves.
For three days only over 70 studio venues, whether tucked away in a farm steading or set up in a dedicated studio, will display the work of 87 artists presenting a selection of the finest original art and craft in the country. The packed programme offers the ideal chance to make a weekend of it in Dumfries & Galloway.
New for 2008 –Super Nature
Super Nature is a new, innovative type of arts experience created by artists’ collective CNN. Super Nature is a chance to adorn your funkiest attire and dance the night away 70s style in the stunning surroundings of Balloch Woods, Creetown. A fun family event where woodland creatures take you on a disco adventure culminating in an exciting Saturday Night Fever finale.
The Spring Fling programme includes artists working in the disciplines of: Architectural Metalwork, Artists Books, Ceramics, Clogs & Shoes, Gilding, Glass, Furniture, Hats, Illustration, Installation, Jewellery, Mosaic, Painting, Drawing, Mixed Media, Performance, Photography, Printmaking, Sculpture, Stone Carving, Textiles, Willow and Wood.
