Disability Awareness Workshop

The Ayrshire and Arran Disability Awareness Workshop, sponsored by VisitScotland and supported by the Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce was held at the Parkstone Hotel recently.
38 people attended the workshop which was received well by the industry. The VisitScotland Prestwick office organised an Awareness Session in conjunction with Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce to raise awareness of disabled visitors in our area and the problems they face.
One of the speakers was Nan McMurdo, who has adapted her self-catering property on Arran for disabled visitors. Being disabled herself, Nan was able to talk about her first hand experience of the difficulties faced whilst on holiday, particularly whilst travelling.
Also speaking was Catherine Bowie a trainer from Edinburgh who gave an update on the Disability Discrimination Act and the legalities of it. Lorraine Thomson from VisitScotland's Quality & Standards Department gave a talk on the scope of the Scheme and also marketing opportunities, in particular the Accessible Scotland brochure.
