Families in Scotland are being urged to vote for both Mount Stuart in Rothesay and Tarbet, Loch Lomond as the UK’s favourite picnic spot in this year’s Warburtons Picnic Awards.
Warburtons is hosting the 2nd annual awards in the build up to this year’s National Bread Week, which runs from 5-11 May, and celebrates the Great British picnic and the UK’s love of loaves.
Up against eight other picnic spots across Scotland, Loch Lomond and Bute will battle it out in the regional heat to become Scotland’s ‘Best Picnic Spot’ and will also be given the chance to represent the region in the national final.
During the final heat, the Scottish winner will go on to contend against the other regional winners from across the UK for the coveted title of ‘Warburtons Best Picnic Spot 2008’.
The overall winner will receive £1,000 cash bursary for the site and a plaque to ensure all visitors know it’s the UK’s favourite place to picnic. Each regional winner will be presented with a picnic bench embossed with a plaque which celebrates the winner’s status.
The other Scottish nominated picnic spots are:
- Cambus O’ May in Aberdeenshire,
- Vatersay in the Outer Hebrides,
- Rothiemurchas Estate near Aviemore,
- Otter Pool in Wood of Cree Nature Reserve,
- Traquair House in Innerleithen,
- a mountain bothy in Ptarmigan Mountain Range in Perthshire,
- Arthur’s Seat in Edinburgh
- and Glasgow’s Botanic Gardens.
