Unique Festivals of Music win EventScotland funding

EventScotland, the national events agency, has announced that two festivals of music in Perth and Kinross have been successful in the latest round of its Regional Events Programme.

The events, which will share a funding award totalling £25,000, are Schubertaid 2008, featuring a long weekend of concerts and poetry amongst other attractions, and the Perthshire Amber – The Dougie MacLean Festival, offering a musical feast of concerts, workshops, songs and sessions.

Graeme White of the Perthshire Amber said: "We are delighted to be supported by EventScotland for this year's event. We believe that we've developed an amazing and unique festival which shares with visitors from Scotland and abroad Dougie's inspiring music and showcases his musical friends in the very beautiful scenery of his native land.

"The 10-day festival features international and Scottish musicians of the highest calibre. Our new website will enable us to promote the event more widely and attract more visitors, and the research support will help us to improve the event year by year."

The programme supports the development of sporting and cultural events and festivals taking place outside the cities of Edinburgh and Glasgow and to date has supported more than 150 events across the country, investing almost £2million through nine rounds of its regional events funding programme.

The next deadline for applications to the programme is August 1, 2008
