A new bridge for Perth? – we need YOUR vote

The people and businesses of Perth and Kinross can start voting on 26th November to make a new foot and cycle bridge over the River Tay a reality.

Proposed by Perth and Kinross Council, the bridge would connect the North Inch and the communities of Muirton and North Muirton, to Scone and the countryside. This would also allow better, healthier and safer travel for many to and from the city centre.

The project has been given a substantial boost by being chosen as one of 79 projects which the sustainable transport charity, Sustrans, would support financially, if they are successful in bidding for £50 million from the Lottery the People’s Millions competition, in a televised public vote in December.

The idea of this bridge is not new, with a bridge being located here in the war. However the hope is that the new bridge would be a beautiful and iconic structure for all in Perthshire to be proud of. Some designs have been suggested but funding and support have to be secured first before any final details and designs can be made.

Perth and Kinross Council are co-ordinating the project – gathering funding, liaising with Sustrans, looking at technical aspects and designs and will be facilitating the building of the project.

But in order for Perth to get Sustrans funding we need Sustrans to be successful in their bid to the Lottery. We need your vote in December and also need your help in getting your customers votes. The TV programmes on the projects bidding for the £50 million will run in the week of 3rd December (with Sustrans on Tuesday 4th although this could change).

The telephone vote will be on the weekend of 8th and 9th December but you can vote online from 26th November on www.thepeoples50million.org.uk - so please do vote for Sustrans.
