Perth Racecourse has announced record breaking figures for the 2006 season of racing.
Perth's total attendance for the twelve day season in 2006 was 54,000; 11% up on 2005 when thirteen fixtures were staged. The average daily attendance exceeded 4,500: the best performance by any Scottish racecourse since the introduction of betting shops to the high-street in the 1960s.
The Racecourse also entertained over 5,538 corporate guests in private facilities (the busiest year on record).
Commercial Manager for the Tote Steve Knight commented: "Perth seems to be bucking the UK trend for Totepool. The UK market is static, whereas Perth has grown. The couriers in the Galileo Restaurant have given a new dimension to Perth Racecourse and pre-ordered betting vouchers have also been extremely popular." Tote figures have revealed an average daily turnover of £49,000 per meeting.
A record number of companies decided to enhance their profile by sponsoring a race and many new sponsors were attracted by the significant media profile and advertising opportunities that Perth Racecourse present.
Steven McGarva, Development Director, Elphinstone said "Perth Racecourse is a fantastic asset to Perthshire. It is a well managed venue with good facilities."
David Ashforth from The Racing Post dubbed Perth Racecourse "a little piece of heaven" and gave the course 41 points out of 50 in his review, ranking Perth in fourth place; one point below Ascot in the review of the 59 UK Racecourses.
