Big Tree Country Big News South of the Border

Perthshire Big Tree Country has played host to the Daily Mail in one of the first press visits this year dedicated to showcasing the delights of Perthshire’s autumn colours.

Pitlochry, Aberfeldy, Kenmore, Atholl Estates, Mansfield Estate and Kinloch Rannoch were all highlighted through a tour of popular beauty spots and visitor attractions. The four-day familiarisation trip arranged by VisitScotland included visits to Cluny House Gardens, a roaring stag safari with Highland Adventure Safaris, a stop at Fotinghall village to see Europe’s oldest living thing, the Fortinghall Yew and a walk around the popular circular walks of the Birks of Aberfeldy.

The five star Blair Castle was also prominent with Diana’s Grove offering one of the best ‘Big Tree’ experiences in Scotland. The Pass of Killiecrankie and Faskally Forest offered a further insight into the history of Perthshire and further evidence of Perthshire’s wonderful woodland heritage. The newly crowned five star Scone Palace with the unique Murray Star maze and Douglas firs was also showcased.

Fiona Meikle, environmental tourism manager for Perthshire said: “Perthshire has a striking natural environment and a rich assortment of heritage trees, woodlands and beauty spots – which we have tried to highlight during this trip

“The huge range of outdoor activities on offer in the area makes it a perfect location for all those seeking to re-energise and escape the stresses of everyday life.”

Perthshire’s Big Tree Country will be on show this Christmas in London’s Covent Garden Market as once again the popular London venue will feature a magnificent 65ft Christmas tree sourced from Atholl Estates.

This year, VisitScotland will work with several Highland Perthshire businesses including Atholl Estates, Dewar’s World of Whisky, Pitlochry Festival Theatre, Atholl Palace Hotel, Hilton Dunkeld House, Nae-Limits, Scotland in Style and Atholl Glens Organic Meat and the Forestry Commission by promoting the area with a stand in the busy market from the 16 – 19 November.
