Best-Selling Stars Lined Up for The Word's Out!
A best-selling star of Tartan Noir, the novelist tipped to steal Sarah 'Tipping the Velvet' Waters' crown, three of Scotland's most beguiling poetic voices, and a Scottish literary king-maker, are among the names appearing at The Word's Out!
The week-long festival of literary events staged across Perth and Kinross begins on Monday October 23rd in Perth with How Was It for You?: an opportunity to get inside the funny, often farcical, world of publishing in the company of Scotland Review of Books editor Alan Taylor.
Also in Perth, on Tuesday October 24th, Jane Harris, the Belfast-born and Glasgow-raised novelist, will be reading from The Observations, one of the biggest fictional debuts of 2006. Harris's compulsive page-turner follows the adventures of a 19th century courtesan-turned-ladies maid and reads like a cross between a classic Victorian novel and a 21st century psychological thriller.
Poetry at the Winery on Wednesday October 25th features three very different Scottish women poets: Tessa Ransford, Christine de Luca and Angela McSeveney, with music from Ewan MacFarlane of The Grim Northern Social. Crime in Kinross on Thursday October 26th offers a chance to meet Denise Mina, author of the best-selling Garnethill Trilogy.
The wealth of unpublished talent in Perth and Kinross gets an airing at an Open Mic night in Perth on Friday October 27th. Reading alongside local wordsmiths will be special guest, slam poet Richard Medrington. The festival ends on Saturday October 28th with two writers' workshops at the Soutar House in Perth.
Tickets for all events are on sale at the AK Bell Library in Perth with full details of venues and ticket prices available online at www.thewordsout.org.uk and in a brochure, available from the AK Bell Library.
