Scottish & Southern
Energy (SSE) has published a consultation document seeking views on
possible route options within which it may develop new high voltage
electricity transmission infrastructure. This infrastructure is being
developed to accommodate output from potential renewable energy schemes
on the Western Isles.
The consultation report provides the outcomes of recent works and
further investigation undertaken by SSE. The strategic corridor
selected as a result of these works is from Stornoway to the Ullapool
area then onwards to Beauly via the Garve area.
The investigations
into extending the underground HVDC (high voltage direct current)
transmission has resulted in an all underground solution being
identified as the preferred option.
The consultation document can be viewed at: www.scottish-southern.co.uk the deadline for comments is 16th February 2007.
