The hotel in Sleat collected the VisitScotland Award for Excellence in Tourism at the Scottish Council for Development and Industry (SCDI) Highlands and Islands Dinner and Awards ceremony.
This nine-bedroom hotel opened in 2004 following a major refurbishment by owners Kenneth Gunn and Anne Gracie. It won the accolade of Scottish Island Hotel of the Year 2005, was Winner of Conde Nast Johansens ‘Most Excellent Service UK Award 2006 and it recently launched a 36ft yacht for the exclusive use of guests which has proved a great success.
Anne Gracie said: “We have seen the hotel and restaurant grow and develop over the past two years. This summer we introduced 'fine dining' to our restaurant offering four course table d'hote with our menu changing daily. Lunches and afternoon cream teas are also popular.
“The impact of the exclusive daily sailing for our guests has been remarkable and for ourselves, totally enjoyable. It is a unique experience and for those wishing to improve their navigational skills, we are hoping to introduce, over the winter months, navigational theory courses leading up to RYA certification. Also this winter we are introducing Gourmet weekends and wine tastings”
VisitScotland Area Director, Scott Armstrong said: “VisitScotland is delighted to present this award to Anne Gracie, who has enthusiastically continued to develop the Toravaig House Hotel into a unique product. The standard of hospitality is outstanding, making the Toravaig House Hotel a great example of excellence within highland tourism.”
