Orkney Awaits British Guild of Travel Writers

A group of eleven journalists from the British Guild of Travel Writers will travel to Orkney this week to experience for themselves what the islands have to offer today’s discerning tourist.

A press trip jointly organised by national tourism agency VisitScotland and the local VisitOrkney network office will see the writers visiting some of Orkney’s most well-known sights, including Maes Howe, Skara Brae, the Ring of Brodgar, St Magnus Cathedral, the Italian Chapel and Scapa Flow, as well as experiencing Orkney’s famous hospitality and musicianship at a traditional live music session.

Orkney’s fine local produce will also be showcased, with a specially organised pre-dinner tour and whisky tasting event for the journalists at Highland Park Distillery and meals at the Lynnfield and Ayre Hotels.

The journalists will be in Orkney between January 25 and 27, and their trip will include commissions for the Times Educational Supplement, BBC History, Northern Ireland Travel News and Italian Vogue.
