VisitScotland's Challenge Fund boosts Orkney’s marinas
Marine tourism in Orkney has received a welcome boost thanks to funding from VisitScotland’s Challenge Fund.
Orkney Marinas Ltd has secured funding of £5,237 in order to develop the existing UK market and target the Scandinavian market for the very first time. The project aims to increase visitor numbers to Orkney’s marinas over the next year by 100 yachts.
The group plan to produce new printed promotional materials including a brochure, as well as development of the website www.orkneymarinas.co.uk by translating it into at least three more languages. The money will also assist with Orkney’s attendance at the Stockholm International Boat Show in March 2007.
The VisitScotland Challenge Fund is available for new, collaborative marketing projects from groups of tourism businesses that have a strong customer focus and that operate at either local or national level. Funds from £2,500 to £65,000 can be awarded to groups constituting of three or more tourism businesses for up to 40% of the project’s total expenditure.
