Review into Hospitality Supervision NOS
To date two working groups have met in Scotland to feedback on current standards and contribute to developments. Revisions are now taking place to reflect the views collected through consultation. Updated standards from generic areas such as management, customer service, intercultural working, and administration and information technology are also being examined to assess the contribution that they may be able to make to the update suite for hospitality supervision.

The next workshop for providers and employers will be on the 18th February in Glasgow. Ideally we would like to consult with trainers, HR advisors and employees in supervisory job roles such as Kitchen supervisors, Bar supervisors, Head porters, reservation and reception Supervisors, House keeping supervisors and other supervisory roles in the Hospitality Industry. This is to make sure that what we are developing is realistic, will benefit you and provide the standards that are appropriate.

Apprenticeship Strategy
As part of the Sector Qualification Strategy and the necessary review of the Modern Apprenticeships and Skillseeker programmes we need to consult on an Apprenticeship Strategy that is appropriate for the sector in the future. Anyone involved in the delivery of these programmes is welcome to attend and we would urge you to be involved early in the development of this strategy.

Prior Notice for the March Events

Sector Qualifications Strategy
Since the beginning of December we have been analysing the findings from the first round of working groups with employers and learning providers. The vast majority of respondents welcomed the unitised approach we are proposing and the need to promote clearer development pathways across core job roles – central to this will be a rationalisation of existing qualifications.

On the back of the feedback on specific qualifications we are putting together clear proposals across each job role to identify the qualifications that should be available as part of three categories: ‘pre-entry’, ‘entry’ and ‘training and development’.

We are setting up the second and final round of working groups to ensure that not only are as many learning providers kept up to date as possible, but that you have an opportunity to comment on the proposals.

The following working groups have been set up in Scotland. In addition an online consultation will be launched next month.

Edinburgh - Wednesday - 12th March 2008
Glasgow - Thursday - 13th March 2008
Aviemore - Friday - 14th March 2008

All groups will run from 10.00 to 3.00pm
