Red Square turns tartan with major Scottish showcase

Moscow’s world famous Red Square turned tartan last week as Kremlin Zoria, Russia’s first ever international military tattoo took place. National tourism organisation VisitScotland worked with Borders based Lochcarron of Scotland, to develop a unique Kremlin Zoria tartan which was presented to the organisers of the event at a VIP Scotland reception.
VisitScotland hosted the reception for key Russian tour operators and journalists in a bid to attract more visitors to Scotland, capitalising on the interest in Scotland generated by the Kremlin Zoria event. VisitScotland has also worked with Gum, an upmarket boutique shopping mall on Red Square, to promote Scotland as a holiday destination to Russian consumers.
Russian visitors are among the highest spending visitors to Scotland, favouring five star hotels and Scotland’s luxury produce, from whisky to cashmere.
The Kremlin Zoria is just one part of VisitScotland’s marketing in Russia. Next month the national tourism organisation will host 20 Scottish businesses on a trade mission to Moscow and St Petersburg to forge links with Russian tour operators.
