Scotland in Brittany

The Lorient Interceltique Festival ran from 3rd to 12th August and is Europe’s biggest Celtic music event. It attracts around 700,000 people to the town of Lorient in Brittany. This year, Scotland was the festival’s guest of honour – a great opportunity to showcase Scotland to an already enthusiastic audience.

VisitScotland’s events and marketing teams worked with the Scottish Executive to bring together the Scottish Pavilion at the festival. VisitScotland, Brittany Ferries, CalMac, Historic Scotland and the Scottish Youth Hostel Association were present and in other sections, there was whisky, Scottish salmon and beef, virtual golf, as well as activities for children and a Scottish bar available for visitors to try.

The pavilion was officially opened by Linda Fabiani, the Minister for Europe, External Affairs and Culture, and the new dance for Lorient was premiered at the opening. The dance was perfectly executed and provided a great visual hook for TV and photographers – a great way for people to get a flavour of Scotland’s cultural offering. Over 15,000 people attended the the VisitScotland section of the pavilion.
