Delta Air Lines to launch daily service linking Edinburgh with New York JFK

America’s fastest growing international airline is to launch a year-round nonstop service from Edinburgh to New York’s JFK Airport, commencing May 2008. The service will be operated with the range and configuration to fly passengers in comfort between Delta’s hub at New York JFK and destinations across continental Europe, including Scotland and the U.K. Delta’s New York service will be the only scheduled nonstop service between Scotland and New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport and will replace Delta’s current nonstop flight to Atlanta which will discontinue from 27 October 2007.

“Delta is pleased with its success in Edinburgh so far, having carried over 87,000 passengers in our first year of service,“ said Armin Venencie, Delta’s UK and Ireland Sales Director. “Edinburgh is a highly seasonal market and the high demand that we’ve experienced during the peak season means that operating service using the 757-200 aircraft to New York will give Delta the flexibility to gauge our service to customer demand on a year-round basis. Scotland is a key component in our international footprint.”

"We are delighted that Delta Air Lines have reaffirmed their commitment to serving Scotland with a new year round service to JFK airport,” said David Johnston, Managing Director of Edinburgh Airport. “The USA continues to be a key market for Scotland, both as a place to do business and in terms of attracting new inbound tourism. The substantial growth in the numbers of passengers flying transatlantic from Edinburgh Airport also underlines the growing desire to fly non stop to the USA from Scotland's capital city. We therefore have every confidence this new service will be a great success."

Delta flights between Edinburgh and New York JFK went on sale from 11 June 2007 and are available via travel agents, Delta’s dedicated UK reservations team, 0845 600 0950, and also online at Delta's website.
