Ancestral Tourism Training Workshops
A workshop has been developed to ensure that tourism operators can maximise the potential benefits to their business from the growing ancestral tourism market, as well as meet the needs of ancestral tourists through the provision of quality service and information.
The Ancestral Tourism Training Workshop, run by Tourist Board Training Ltd, is suitable for people in frontline tourism businesses such as accommodation, restaurants, pubs and visitor attractions, providing access to VisitScotland’s Ancestral Tourist Welcome Scheme. This quality scheme gives you the opportunity to demonstrate that you have at least a minimum standard of knowledge about ancestral tourism and that your business commits and adheres to a code of conduct.
Workshops held to date have received glowing testimonials from some of the 200+ delegates:
"It was very useful meeting local contacts who were able to explain the local genealogy services available and how best to make use of them." Alison McKenzie, Apex Hotel, Dundee
"A stimulating and thought provoking day." Robin Rodger, Perth Museum & Art Gallery
"Absolutely chocablock with information." Shelia Scott, Tour Guide
"It opened my eyes to the growing market of ancestral tourism and the off-spins and links with local businesses." Robbie Pringle, Hawick
"This was a clearly delivered, structure course." Cait McCullagh, Isle of Lismore Museum
The next workshop is scheduled to take place on Friday 4 May at Ayrshire Management Centre, Craigie Park, Ayr. The participant cost of £50 + VAT per person includes lunch, refreshments and an information pack (this fee is subject to European Social Fund eligibility).
