VisitScotland Expo, Scotland's only flagship business to business event for the travel trade, took place last week (18 and 19 April).
The Royal Highland Centre's Highland Hall in Ingliston, Edinburgh was the venue; the first time Expo had been held in Edinburgh since 1991.
With more than twenty additional international buyers attending the show this year, it was one of the biggest international contingents at the show in its 27 year history. Approximately 200 exhibitors attended and these varied from hotels and transport operators to visitor attractions.
The general concensus was that this year was as impressive as ever, attracting visitors from a wide spread of markets with buyers from Korea and Latvia welcomed for the first time.
A number of seminars and events were an integral part of the success. A dedicated activity and wildlife workshop was on offer, providing a targeted opportunity to allow people to meet with activity operators including walking, cycling, wildlife and soft adventure suppliers. Other seminars included a presentation on top tips for success in VisitScotland's Scottish Thistle Awards and future scenarios for tourism, proving there was something for everyone.
Philip Riddle, VisitScotland Chief Executive, said: “VisitScotland Expo provides the perfect promotional opportunity for Scottish tourism businesses to showcase their products and services to potential buyers from around the world. This year Expo attracted many new exhibitors and buyers, which is very encouraging, and a clear demonstration of the popularity of the fantastic and diverse tourism product we have here in Scotland."
