New guide is fast track to Scotland’s mountain biking trails

VisitScotland’s new mountain biking guide was put to the test by some of Scotland’s fastest riders recently.
The Scottish Mountain Biking Guide showcases the very best of our 22 dedicated biking centres to help riders plan the kind of trails they want to take on during an adventure break in Scotland.
Scottish riders hoping to make it into the British team at the UCI Mountain Bike World Championships were also among the first to tackle the new “Essential Freeride” trail which is due to open next month at the Forestry Commission Scotland’s Glentress Centre.
The World Championship is being held at Fort William in September. It’s the first time the event has been staged in the UK and around 40,000 fans are expected to descend on the Highland town to watch the riders battle it out.
VisitScotland’s Product Manager for adventure sports Steve Duncan said: “Mountain biking is the world’s favourite adventure sport and Scotland is up there with the top destinations.
“Our trails and enthusiasm for the sport are the envy of the world and we are the only country to have achieved ‘Global Superstar’ status over two consecutive years from the International Mountain Bicycling Association (IMBA) in their annual Report Card."
