Historic Scotland Seeks Two Non-Executive Directors

Historic Scotland is recruiting two additional non-executive directors to join its board. The part-time positions provide an opportunity to become involved in high-level policy decisions about the care and management of the country’s historic environment.

Candidates will need to have experience in one or more of the following; conservation, development, architecture, skills and training, tourism, visitor management and business analysis.

As an executive agency within the Scottish Executive’s education department, Historic Scotland has a wide range of responsibilities. The agency’s aim is to safeguard the nation’s historic environment through investment, informed development, research, training and promoting better practice. Historic Scotland is also Scotland’s largest operator of visitor attractions with hundreds of remarkable historic buildings and ancient monuments in care.

The board’s role includes advising Scottish Ministers on strategic policies and priorities, setting the agency’s operational policy and overseeing its planning and performance.

The agency already has three non-executive directors on the board and these posts help Historic Scotland move forward by offering an external view and providing challenging, innovative and informed input.
