Christmas Message from the Chief Executive, VisitScotland
This year has been a busy one for all concerned with working in tourism in Scotland and this has been reflected in what has been achieved. The industry generally has been doing very well with visitor and occupancy numbers up, Glasgow voted one of the world’s ‘must visit’ destinations (the only one in Europe!), Edinburgh hitting back by being chosen as the UK’s favourite city and up-and-coming Ayr voted third “hottest” destination in the World.
Within VisitScotland we have seen our marketing going from strength to strength – including winning a well deserved OBE for Director of Marketing Malcolm Roughead; we’ve increased numbers in our Quality Assurance participation while introducing new schemes; we’ve won more PR awards for the quality of our communications; and we’ve introduced some very innovative ideas in information and sales provision. That’s on top of the day to day business across the network of serving the millions of visitors who come to our country every year.
