Campaign to tackle food-on-the-go litter

Keep Scotland Beautiful has recently launched a new campaign to tackle the problem of litter resulting from ‘food-on-the-go’. Dropping litter is not only a crime punishable by a fixed penalty notice of £50, but it is also a blight on the environment of cities and countryside alike, literally spoiling the view for visitors and local residents.
At the launch of the new campaign, a pedestrianised section of Glasgow’s Sauchiehall Street was cordoned off with yellow and black police tape. Why? Because a giant drink carton, crisp packet and poke of chips had been 'dropped' by an offender! It may not have been a ‘murder’ but the message was that it is still a crime.
Large scale adverts will be appearing in Scotland's major towns and cities to remind people that a Fixed Penalty Notice of £50 could be issued if they are caught dropping fast food litter. Please note that food-on-the-go campaign posters can be downloaded free from www.keepscotlandbeautiful.org
Last year VisitScotland worked with Keep Scotland Beautiful on the very successful project of producing and supplying biodegradable litter bags to partner tourism businesses. VisitScotland remains committed to the Scottish Executive ambition to grow tourism in Scotland in a sustainable way, both through its own activities and advice for the tourism industry in Scotland.
