Running from 19 -27 May 2007, Scottish Biodiversity Week is an opportunity for visitors and locals to find out more about biodiversity in their area.
The week of nation-wide activity and events is aimed at encouraging everyone to take a fresh look at how they can explore Scotland’s natural heritage in fun, innovative and thought provoking ways.
Many committed people are working hard to protect Scotland’s wildlife, countryside, coastlines, city greenspaces and parks and this event aims to raise awareness of the importance of these special places.
Local businesses can help by promoting (and/or entering) this year’s Nature Photo Competition which answers the question:
“Biodiversity is about the variety of life, all living things, from the lowly earthworm to the gracious golden eagle, from the smallest blade of grass to the tallest tree. Biodiversity is all around us, from the smallest window box to the vast Cairngorm plateau. Scotland boasts diverse landscapes – city gardens, hidden glens, tranquil lochs, local parks, and striking coastlines. Diversity in our environment can be seen throughout Scotland – where are you inspired?”
There are great prizes for the winners:
1st prize: An all expenses paid trip to Loch Awe to spend a day with professional photographer Philip Price,
2nd prize: Nikon SLR digital camera,
3rd prize: RSPB Guide to Digital Wildlife Photography.
