Edinburgh hotel first to appoint dedicated responsible business consultant
Radisson SAS Edinburgh has appointed its own full-time environmental advisor, a move which is believed to be a first for Scotland. Alexandra Hammond, 25, appointed to the role in January, plans to implement recommendations resulting from recent audits of the hotel carried out by the Carbon Trust and the Business Environment Partnership, in addition to training the 140 staff in ways they can help reduce the hotel's environmental impact.
She will also lead the hotel's effort to secure accreditation from the Green Tourism Business Scheme this year.
Since January, a cardboard baler and industrial can crusher for recycling has been installed at the hotel and already the amount of landfill waste produced has been cut by 50%.
