Glasgow scores Mackintosh double at Scottish Thistle Awards

Glasgow tourism businesses have dominated this year’s Scottish Thistle Awards, the annual celebration of the cream of Scotland’s tourism industry, winning in four of the award categories, including two for last year’s Glasgow Mackintosh Festival.

The Hunterian Museum & Art Gallery, which led the hugely successful festival, took the prize for International Events and Festivals, and the award for Marketing Initiative went to Glasgow's Matthews Marketing for their work on promoting the festival.

In a great night for Glasgow, the PR Excellence category was won by McKinlay Kidd, the Scottish holiday specialists based on Union Street; and the award for Innovation went to Loch Lomond Seaplanes, who launched their new Clyde services in August.

Winners were presented with their awards by celebrity impressionist and comedian Alistair McGowan at a glittering ceremony at Edinburgh’s EICC on Friday night.

Created by VisitScotland, the Scottish Thistle Awards - now in their 16th year – are widely recognised as the mark of excellence and professionalism in Scotland’s tourism industry, rewarding businesses for their contribution to the country’s reputation as a first-class visitor destination.

Over 200 entries were received for this year’s Scottish Thistle Awards, which are judged by an independent panel.
