It’s been a very good year for visitor attractions throughout Greater Glasgow & Clyde Valley, as VisitScotland’s annual Visitor Attraction Monitor reveals that the area has the highest level of visits in Scotland—even if you don’t count Kelvingrove.
Kelvingrove Art Gallery & Museum’s mighty 2.23 million visits keeps it at the top of the tree in Scotland’s league table for attractions, but there are plenty of other success stories in the area too.
Its sister venues Gallery of Modern Art, the Museum of Transport and the St Mungo Museum of Religious Life and Art all saw increased numbers of visitors in 2007, and there were big rises at Glasgow Science Centre (up 17%), the Tenement House (up 21%) and the Hunterian Museum, up 33% following a refurb and relaunch last May.
Those extra visitors obviously made their way into the surrounding area too, as Greenock’s McLean Museum saw figures rise by 88%, Bothwell Castle was up 39% and Moat Park Heritage Centre in Biggar was up 121%.
