Huge success of the second ‘Dine Around Glasgow’ £15 menu promotion throughout the Gourmet Glasgow festival in August has prompted VisitScotland and Glasgow Restaurateurs Association to team up again for the city’s first winter promotion, ‘Dine Around New Year’.

The promotional menus are now live and bookable at www.bestglasgowrestaurants.com, the web site of Glasgow Restaurateurs Association.

Sponsored by VisitScotland, the promotion has run throughout August for the last two years and with great results. During 2006, Dine Around Glasgow bookings rose by 35% on 2005, generating over 9,000 covers in the four-week run, worth in excess of £135,000 to Glasgow’s kitchens.

Scheduled to coincide with the 2007 Celtic Connections festival, Dine Around New Year is live and runs until 5 February at restaurants across the city. In a new development, participating venues will have the option of either the traditional £15 menu or a £25 gourmet option.

“January is traditionally downtime for restaurants, so there’s real room for growth,” says VisitScotland area director Tom McWilliam.

“Combined with Celtic Connections, Dine Around presents a great opportunity to make a difference to the restaurant sector in Glasgow when they need it most. Our August promotions have proved that the format works, and that people will spend money eating out when the offer is right.” he said.

Alan Tomkins of the GRA said: “The Dine Around promotion, in association with VisitScotland, is an excellent way to kick-start our online booking system which we hope will allow local people and visitors to Glasgow the chance to select a restaurant, view sample menus and book online.”
