‘Beating the Drum: Traditional Music and Scottish Tourism’
Wednesday 24 January
5pm – 7.15pm
City Halls, Candleriggs, Glasgow
As the Celtic Connections circus rolls into town, we’re all aware of the relationship between traditional music and tourism. But do you know how to get the most out of this growing market?
The Tourism Society Scotland in conjunction with Scottish Cultural Enterprises and Celtic Connections presents this informative evening exploring the impact of traditional music on our tourism industry.
Speakers will include Donald Shaw of Capercaillie, who is also Artistic Consultant to Celtic Connections; Ian Smith, Head of Music at the Scottish Arts Council; and Jane Donald, Head of Sales and Marketing for Glasgow Cultural Enterprises. Following the presentations, there will be a plenty of time for an open discussion on the issues raised.
Of course, it would be unthinkable not have some traditional Scottish music as part of the proceedings, so the talk will be followed by an evening with some of the best musicians around in ‘Tune Up on tour for Burnsong’: an intimate look at songwriting with great songs and banter.
Tickets are limited, so pre-booking is essential. For more information, contact Carole Sherlock at The Tourism Society Scotland by emailing cs009c1348@blueyonder.co.uk
