If your idea of the perfect Christmas gift is cartoon socks and a three-pack of guest soaps, you should get yourself down to The Lighthouse in Glasgow for a swift re-education in the art of the stylish gift.
Form: The Lighthouse Shop is an Aladdin’s cave of mouth-watering ideas for design-savvy folk hungry for the latest contemporary products for the home, for gifts or for sheer self-indulgence.
This festive season, The Lighthouse’s review gallery is showcasing new work from the celebrated Orkney-based company Tait & Style, titled Bewinter. The centrepiece of a ‘winter wonderland’ in the gallery is two wooden trees draped with colourful scarves, stockings and knitted beasties from Tait & Style’s winter collection. Selected items are also available to buy from the shop.
Ingrid Tait made her first collection of scarves at London’s Liberty store, which led to a commission from leading fashion designer, Paul Smith. Since returning home to Stromness, she has gone on to create designs that mix traditional Shetland patterns with influences as diverse as Norway and New Mexico.
Tait & Style has worked with some of the world’s most exciting designers including Marithé and Francois Girbaud, Comme des Garçons, John Galliano, Dior, Shirin Guild, Givenchy, Kenzo, Conran and John Rocha, and has exported products to Japan, USA, France, Italy and Germany.
Bewinter runs until 11 February, and a selection of products from the collection is also in sale at form: The Lighthouse shop, 11 Mitchell Lane Glasgow, tel 0141 225 8422 or e-mail form@thelighthouse.co.uk.
