Summer short breaks push for Glasgow

The reopened Kelvingrove, the Mackintosh Festival and shopping are the key messages in VisitScotland’s latest marketing push for Glasgow, in the form of a four-item mailer issued in June to 25,000 UK consumers.

The mailer is designed to stimulate breaks over the next few months, and plays on the already significant interest in the two main events of the summer calendar, the return of Kelvingrove in July and the Mackintosh Festival focused on September.

A series of accommodation offers and shopping/pampering packages are included, bookable via visitscotland.com, plus stylish colour promotional flyers on the destination highlighting the city’s main strengths.

A ’10 things not to be missed this summer’ flyer suggests some more quirky and unusual reasons to take the trip to Glasgow, including the Bard in the Botanics summer Shakespeare festival and a visit to the Scottish Football Museum for those inspired by a month of World Cup coverage.

“The combination of Kelvingrove and Mackintosh makes for one of Glasgow’s strongest summers in recent years,” said Elaine Dickie, Product Manager for VisitScotland Glasgow, “This mailer is timed very carefully to make sure we capitalise on today’s short break booking behaviour and the coverage that both these events will generate throughout the UK in the coming weeks.”
