Renfrewshire Area Tourism Partnership Formed
The tourism industry in Renfrewshire has just formed its Area Tourism Partnership; a representative group bringing together interests from the private and public sector to further the growth and development of tourism in the area.
The ATP was established by VisitScotland and Renfrewshire Council earlier this month at a meeting at Paisley Abbey, and already includes representation from Scottish Enterprise Renfrewshire, Reid Kerr College, Renfrewshire Chamber of Commerce, Clydebuilt and Mar Hall.
The partnership will present a draft Area Action Plan, also developed with the assistance of VisitScotland, to Renfrewshire Council for approval on 14 November. Following approval by the council, the partnership will appoint a permanent chair and deputy with the completed plan expected to be ready for launch in January.
Until November, VisitScotland area director Tom McWilliam will act as interim chair of the new ATP. He said:
“The formation of the partnership marks a major turning point for the tourism industry in Renfrewshire. Businesses need only look to other areas of Scotland where partnerships are already in place for evidence of how the ATPs are making a real difference on local issues and applying the Scottish Executive’s Tourism Framework for Change in a way that addresses both the concerns and the strengths of Renfrewshire’s industry.
“This is an area characterised by some of Scotland’s most prominent tourism products, among them Glasgow Airport and Paisley. Renfrewshire’s role in delivering the national growth agenda for 2015 is considerable, and the all of us in the ATP are looking forward to putting the local plan into action,” he said.
All tourism businesses in Renfrewshire are welcome to attend the partnership meetings, which are set to take place quarterly.
