Lanarkshire looks set for one of its busiest ever autumn tourist seasons, as a new web site is launched promoting the area as a prime destination for families.

The new web site, at www.visitlanarkshire.com, includes inspirational ideas on things to see and do in Lanarkshire as well as information on where to stay, places to eat and drink, attractions and events, plus competitions and special offers aimed at the families market.

The site was launched to capitalise on the imminent September and October school breaks, when families are traditionally looking for ideas for days out and short breaks.

The site has been developed as part of an overall three-year project designed to reposition and market Lanarkshire as a tourism destination. The project is a collaboration of both North and South Lanarkshire Councils with Scottish Enterprise Lanarkshire, Business Gateway and VisitScotland.

VisitScotland area director Tom McWilliam said: “Lanarkshire is emerging as one of the best day trip destinations in central Scotland for families. This new site pulls together all that the area has to offer on a day trip or a short break, and makes a powerful proposition to potential visitors. I believe we’ll see tangible benefits from the launch of this site in the weeks to come.”
