VisitScotland supports the Springboard Ambassador Programme
Eight dedicated employees from businesses in Fife have recently signed up as potential “ambassadors” for the local tourism, hospitality and leisure industry – a vital component of the Fife economy.
Springboard Scotland, the organisation that promotes careers in the industry, organised a two-day induction programme for the willing volunteers, which helps prepare them to become advocates for the tourism industry. Over the coming months the ambassadors will make presentations to a variety of audiences, such as school pupils, college students, parents, Careers Scotland and Jobcentre Plus staff, explaining to them just why they love their jobs and why the industry makes an excellent career choice in the 21st Century. They will speak knowledgeably and entertainingly about life at the sharp end.
The employees come from a range of organisations including VisitScotland Fife, the St Andrews Links Trust, the Scottish Deer Centre, Sodexho Prestige, the Inn at Lathones and the University of St Andrews.
VisitScotland Fife is a strong supporter of this initiative and is proud to announce that at the recent induction, Lorna MacDonald, Customer Service Supervisor, became the second member of staff to qualify as a Springboard Ambassador. She hopes to follow in her colleague, Catriona Fothergill’s, footsteps by representing Visitscotland and the industry in general at Jobs Fairs and Careers Conventions, exhibitions and conferences around Fife.
The Ambassadors who trained in February of this year have been very busy participating in: the Springboard Scotland Internship Programme, designed to introduce 5th and 6th year pupils to structured employment and training opportunities within the industry; the St Andrews Discovery Trail in March; the Fife Schools Tourism Challenge in April, a partnership event organised by the Fife Tourism Alliance, Careers Scotland and Springboard Scotland; Student Business Week organised by Careers Scotland; and the St Andrews World Class Open Day in September.
The current programme was organised in partnership with Scottish Enterprise Fife and included presentations on the Fife Tourism Strategy and the work of Careers Scotland and Jobcentre Plus.
