Snowdrop success for Cambo Estate

Cambo Estate in St Andrews has reported another bumper ‘snowdrop season’ this year, thanks in part to VisitScotland’s Snowdrop Festival, with both visitor numbers and income up on last year’s figures.
An estimated 10,000 visitors came to see the magical snowdrop gardens and woodlands at Cambo over the six week period of the festival this year, with many people staying locally just to visit the snowdrops.
Cambo Estate was one of over 50 gardens, woodlands and estates taking part in VisitScotland’s second ever Snowdrop Festival, which this year took place from February 1 until March 16. The Festival aims to encourage more people to visit Scotland’s gardens outwith peak tourist seasons by showcasing some of the country’s most spectacular snowdrop gardens.
As well as attracting more visitors to the Cambo Estate, other businesses in the area also benefited with many reporting increased custom over the period of the Snowdrop Festival, when the flowers were in bloom.
And Scotland’s snowdrops seem to be making an impact internationally as well – interest is already being shown in a Snowdrop Conference being held at the Royal Botanic Gardens in Edinburgh on 20 February 2009 with 45 places booked by Dutch group of horticulturalists making a return trip to Scotland at snowdrop time.
