National Galleries of Scotland Attract Exciting Exhibitions for 2008

The National Galleries of Scotland will be looking forward to another great year with some exciting exhibitions secured for 2008. Among the exhibitions planned for 2008 are:

VANITY FAIR PORTRAITS: PHOTOGRAPHS 1913 – 2008
14 June - 21 September 2008
Scottish National Portrait Gallery
Vanity Fair Portraits: Photographs 1913–2008, will showcase some of the greatest portrait photographs of the twentieth century, which were taken for, or published in, Vanity Fair magazine. The exhibition will feature some 150 images from the high profile magazine’s early period, which will be displayed, for the first time, with photographs from the contemporary Vanity Fair. Vanity Fair Portraits will include celebrated subjects such as Albert Einstein, Charlie Chaplin, Arthur Miller and Madonna.

TRACEY EMIN
Early August (to be confirmed) – 9 November 2008
Scottish National Gallery of Modern Art
Tracey Emin is one of the most celebrated artists of her generation, yet remarkably this will be the first retrospective exhibition of her work to be held in the UK. Emin’s work draws directly upon her personal experiences, and often refers to traumatic episodes in her early life. Emin’s great achievement is to have drawn upon her background – the sort of background that a lot of people share, but which is largely uncharted territory in the world of art – and to have done so in a manner that is neither tragic nor sentimental.
