Kids Golf Tournament major boost for East Lothian

East Lothian is hosting the US Kids Golf European Championship from May 27th until May 30th 2008. The event will be taking place across six of the county’s golf courses.

With 520 kids aged 7 to 14 from all over the world taking part, it is set to be the largest participation golf event in Scotland in this year. Already there are entries from Hawaii, Japan, Colombia, Venezuela, The Philippines, India, South Africa, Canada, the USA and almost every country in Europe. In most age categories at least 25 percent of the competitors are from North America, so it is truly an international event.

With the age groups being so low, all competitors are travelling with parents and in many cases other siblings, so there will be between 1500 and 2000 visitors to the area and most will be coming for at least a week to prepare and take part. The economic benefit is extended into Edinburgh and beyond as the demand for bed space far exceeded the capacity in East Lothian.
