A dinner to present the “Good Food From East Lothian” competition awards was held at Whitekirk Golf & Country Club near Dunbar on Wednesday 20 September.

Building on the success of the East Lothian Food and Drink Directory, launched last year, the aim of the competition was to promote the use of local food and drink and to acknowledge businesses that buy their produce locally and deliver a high quality service.

Three categories were judged over the summer by an independent panel of judges: Trevor Laffin, Hospitality Management team leader at Queen Margaret University; Donald Reid of Slow Food Edinburgh; and Jay Crawford of Real Radio.

The awards were presented by Pat O’Brien, the Provost of East Lothian, with the winners each receiving a crystal trophy and a cheque for £500. The runners-up each received a Highly Commended certificate.

The winners and runners-up were:

Best Hotel Meal – Ducks @ Kilspindie House, Aberlady
Runner up –Greywalls Hotel, Gullane

Best Restaurant Meal – La Potinière, Gullane
Runner up – The Creel Restaurant, Dunbar

Best Pub Meal – The Old Clubhouse, Gullane
Runner up – The Prestoungrange Gothenburg, Prestonpans

More than 90 people involved in the hospitality and food and drink industry attended the dinner and the feedback on the event was excellent.

The team at Economic Development Division has already started planning for next year’s competition, which will have additional categories.
