VisitScotland Chairman visits Dumfries & Galloway

Peter Lederer on the Chairman's Tour
VisitScotland chairman Peter Lederer was recently in Dumfries & Galloway to meet with local businesses and students as part of his Chairman’s Tour across Scotland.
Mr Lederer began his tour of the region at the Queens Hotel in Lockerbie with a breakfast meeting with local businesses and initiatives from that area. Mr Lederer then travelled west to Dumfries & Galloway College to meet with Principal Tony Jakimciw and a group of tourism and catering students to encourage them to pursue a career in Scottish tourism.
Lunch was held at the Crichton with Chamber of Commerce members and other local tourism businesses and then in the evening a stakeholders event was held with a welcome from Area Director Delia Holland and Chairman Peter Lederer. This was followed by a presentation from Director of Visitor Services and Quality Willie MacLeod on the way forward for Information and Sales in Scotland. The Chairman’s day was completed with a dinner at the Cairndale Hotel in Dumfries with Council representatives.
The next morning Mr Lederer headed west to the Selkirk Arms in Kirkcdubright where businesses from that area were given the opportunity to ask Mr Lederer questions and discuss any comments and queries they may have. To complete his tour of the area, Mr Lederer attended the official opening of the new Aston Hotel in Dumfries.
Feedback from the Chairman’s tour has been very positive and enabled the Chairman to sample a huge range of opinion and products. The tour allows the chairman to listen to views and capture suggestions for improving any aspect of the work of VisitScotland.
