The New Season is upon our TICs

VisitScotland Borders is already looking to open up again for the forthcoming season. The recruitment programme is well underway which will shortly be followed by training and the setting up of seasonal centres.

Selkirk, which operates in conjunction with Halliwells House Museum and is very compact, has had a minor facelift to brighten the shelving arrangements and give more space for customers and staff.

In Eyemouth work is ongoing with the Museum Trust to maximise the space available for visitors. The museum trustees are working hard on improving the exhibition area.

Hawick TIC will move into the new Tower Mill this year and developments are well underway, the shop fittings and desk are currently being constructed. The Hawick team have managed the sale of tickets for the cinema and special events over the winter months from a temporary desk so they are looking forward immensely to having a proper desk to work from.

Linda Herbst and Gillian Patterson attended the recent trade fair in Glasgow to identify new products that will enhance the centres and give customers new ranges to choose from.

If you haven’t already had a chance to pop into the centre to see some of the products which have been made exclusively for VisitScotland e.g. Arran Aromatics range, and our Tain, Buchanan and Jersey pottery ranges - these items are currently on a special winter offer and would look very stylish in any Bed & Breakfast, Guest House or home – why not pop in to Jedburgh/ Peebles (Monday to Saturday) or Kelso/ Melrose (Friday, Saturday, Monday) to see for yourself. If you wanted bigger supplies of any of these ranges then we can get them for you.

Here in the Borders we continue to fly our green credentials and our latest initiative was to re-cycle Christmas cards to benefit the Woodland Trust – almost 2,000 cards were collected. As the UK’s leading woodland conservation charity, the money raised allows the Woodland Trust to plant new trees and continue their conservation work protecting the UK’s native woodland and irreplaceable ancient woodland.
