Rory Changleng from Kingsland Primary School in Peebles proved he is the ultimate Brain of the Borders, beating his fellow ‘whiz kids’ at the Grand Final of the VisitScotland Junior Brain of the Borders, sponsored by Historic Scotland.

The six brainy Borderers competed in the mastermind style contest, which is now in its ninth year, quizzed by radio star Stuart McCulloch. Questions were centered on the Scottish Borders, its historic houses, gardens, activities and other tourist attractions. The final was extremely close, coming down to a tie break between Rory, Lynsey Robertson from Earlston Primary School and Maitland Murray from Duns Primary School with Rory coming out top.

Rory said; "I was really chuffed to win Junior Brain of the Borders! I'd read up on all the facts and was well prepared for all the questions. It was great to have my friends and family in the audience and since going back to school everyone has been coming up to me and saying congratulations. What a brilliant night!"

In addition to the title, ‘Junior Brain of the Borders 2007’ Rory has won not only a Historic Scotland Family Membership allowing him and his family free entry into over 70 attractions across Scotland but a £50 voucher, £500 for his school to spend and a trip for his whole class to a top Borders Historic Scotland attraction.

Runners-up were: Thomas Butler, Broomlands Primary School, Kelso; Marisa Cove, Caddonfoot Primary School, Clovenfords; Maitland Murray, Duns Primary School; Lindsay McGuire, Melrose Primary School; Lynsey Robertson, Earlston Primary School. All runners-up receive Family Memberships of Historic Scotland and a £25 voucher.

This year’s Final was held in the Tower Mill in Hawick, home of last year’s winner, Maerin Murray from Trinity Primary School.
