Scotland’s fantastic range of summer events are being showcased across Scotland and the North of England in a new VisitScotland TV and cinema advert; which includes the Borders Book Festival.

Celebrities Michael Palin, KT Tunstall, and Colin Montgomerie all feature in the new advert, which shows live footage from the Borders Book Festival, T in the Park, and the Barclays Scottish Open at Loch Lomond. The advert was launched to the tourism industry at VisitScotland Expo, the annual exhibition for tourism businesses at Glasgow’s SECC.

The Borders Book Festival is held in Melrose June (22-25 June this year), attracted high profile authors such as Sheila Hancock, Germaine Greer and Michael Palin last year. After the tremendous success of 2005, this year’s event has tripled in size continuing its impressive line up which includes Ian Rankin, James Naughtie and Tom Conti.

The advert also features the UCI Mountain Bike world cup in FortWilliam, Edinburgh Festival, Glasgow Piping Festival, Knockhill Superbikes and the Beltane Fire Festival and is part of a £12 million ongoing VisitScotland marketing campaign aimed at UK visitors. 1.2 million viewers will see the advert in its current run on TV which has been on air for the last few weeks and will run until mid-summer 2006.

This is the second time the Scottish Borders has been used within a national VisitScotland TV advert as mountain biking at Glentress appeared in the ‘City Freedom’ advert last year encouraging those on a city break to experience the countryside on their doorstep. The advert follows on from VisitScotland’s winter festivals TV and cinema advert which ran over the winter months. The winter festivals advert showed footage of Billy Connolly, Sharleen Spiteri, the Scissor Sisters, Radio 1 DJ Trevor Nelson, model Yasmin Le Bon and TV personalities Colin and Justin, all shown attending or taking part in events across Scotland.
