St Cuthbert at Melrose Abbey
St. Cuthbert was at Melrose Abbey in his walking boots to launch the St Cuthbert’s Way walking route’s tenth anniversary celebrations.

St. Cuthbert's Way, the cross Borders 100k (62miles) walking route starting in Melrose and finishing on the coast of Northumberland, will  reach ten years old in July this year. The route incorporates a number of historic and naturally beautiful locations associated with the 7th century saint who began his ministry at Melrose Priory in 650AD.

To celebrate the tenth anniversary of the opening of St. Cuthbert’s Way the partners involved* in the maintenance and upkeep of the route have arranged a week long programme of events from 23rd – 30th July. This will include daily ranger led walks covering the entire route and a number of related evening events.

The award winning trail has been recognised as one of the most varied long distance routes in the country. In its 100k (62miles) length walkers in the Scottish Borders half experience high level walking over the Eildon Hills and across the Cheviot Hills from west to east, reaching a height of 368 metres on Wideoopen Hill, as well as attractive riverside walking along the Tweed.

The full programme can be obtained from any of the Tourist Information Centre’s within the area. Visit www.visitscottishborders.com for further information on the walk and details of accommodation or call 0870 608 0404.
