Tourism Gets an Uplift

World Famous Bras were on the agenda at this year’s 2008 Talking Tourism Industry conference with one of the UK's leading female entrepreneurs Scotland’s Michelle Mone.

Almost 200 delegates attended the Conference, held at the Park Hotel in Kilmarnock, and were addressed by keynote speaker Michelle Mone, founder and co-owner of MJM International, the multi-million pound lingerie company.

Michelle gave a passionate insight into her struggle to succeed against all odds. Everything Michelle does stems from her ethos of hard work and listening to her customer needs. Michelle, who has worked with models such as Rachel Hunter, Gemma Atkinson and Sarah Harding from Girls Aloud, believes in creativity, never giving up and having passion – something that Scot’s have in abundance. Michelle has created a world renowned brand through pure energy, vision and commitment and through this experience was able to provide practical advice for all businesses there on the day.

The Conference brought together tourism businesses from across Ayrshire & Arran and encouraged them to develop new ways of working to make the area a world-class destination in which the visitor experience exceeds their expectations.

Professor John Lennon from the Moffat Centre, the UK’s largest University based consultancy and research centre, has undertaken tourism and travel projects worldwide, and is the author of seven books and over 100 articles on the travel and tourism industry. As well as giving an insight into tourism practices Professor Lennon spoke on national & international tourism key trends and drivers.

Other guest speakers included Provost Stephanie Young, Gwen Raez, Group Product Manager for VisitScotland, and Bob Leitch, chair of the Ayrshire and Arran Tourism Partnership.

Sponsored by Scottish Enterprise Ayrshire and VisitScotland and supported by the Ayrshire Chamber of Commerce and The Park Hotel, the event gave local businesses an insight into the Scottish tourism industry.
