As the Seniors British Open saw thousands of spectators and an array of world class golfers at the Westin Turnberry; the area played host to some very special ladies. Whilst their husbands were dealing with the job in hand – winning the Seniors Open – some of the golfers wives were taken on a whistle stop tour of Ayrshire.

In the morning the ladies travelled to Enterkine Country House Hotel for morning coffee and had an opportunity for some retail therapy sampling the delights of traditional Scottish fayre, combined with the opportunity to purchase unique and contemporary handcrafted products from designer makers based in Ayrshire.

Next stop was Rozelle House, Galleries and Gardens, home to the Tam O’ Shanter series of 54 paintings by Alexander Goudie - a tale told in pictures. The series was first exhibited in 1996 during the Edinburgh festival and is acknowledged as among the best of Scottish narrative or illustrative paintings. Lunch with the “Bard” at the Brig O’ Doon Hotel and an afternoon garden party at Doon Brae House was a wonderful end to a fantastic day.

The trip was organised by Jane Young, Golf Tourism Executive (Industry Liaison) with Scottish Golf SouthWest & VisitScotland who were heavily involved with the Senior British Open Championship at Turnberry played the 27th-30th July, supporting South Ayrshire Council (SAC) and Scottish Enterprise Ayrshire.

The ladies were given a reminder of their visit to Ayrshire & Arran in the form of lovely goodie bags from Arran Aromatics and a small book of Burns from The Burns Heritage Park.
